Participatory Pedagogy and
the Digital Imperative in my
Composition 2.0 Classroom
"Any pedagogical situation should be considered as a scene for inventions to come into appearance by creating the conditions for participation. We relinquish the discourse of mastery. We place value on the aspect of chance and emerging networks. We access a choric space for writing and teaching" (111).

"Participatory composition addresses the convergence of the visual, verbal, aural, and corporal by removing the hermeneutic requirement of analysis and instead advocating production and participation in every writing gesture, largely defined." (Arroyo 10).
For inquiry projects in our class, we work in a participatory composition model for all assignments including our inquiry project. With the inquiry project, students use a multimodal space (on Wix) for their preliminary research and feedback as well as by creating a digital essay as their final product. Throughout the inquiry process, students receive feedback and participate in other student's work through commenting on blogs, creating "research workspaces," conducting "sounding boards" on their topics, responding to each other's writing, and composing a research-based, multimodal final inquiry project.
